McCain says he's tested, ready for nation's highest office

ST. PAUL — A life of public service and a willingness to fight for principle have made him the best candidate for the nation's highest office, John McCain said Thursday in accepting the Republican nomination for president.

In an acceptance to a cheering Republican convention, McCain repeatedly said he is unafraid to take unpopular positions and believes Democratic nominee Barack Obama lacks the experience needed for the presidency.

"I will reach out my hand to anyone to help me get this country moving again. I have that record and the scars to prove it. Senator Obama does not," McCain said.
