An executive at a media watchdog organization says networks are twisting unemployment reports to "boost" President Obama and "bash" former President Bush.
Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture at the Media Research Center (MRC), recently wrote a column titled, "SPUN-employment" to detail the vast difference in the media's coverage of unemployment between the Bush and Obama administrations.
"We compared how they handled this back in 2006 and looked at now, how they handled it in 2010. Back in 2006, the media were all over President Bush, constantly going after him [and] criticizing him, saying 'the unemployment numbers are bad,'" Gainor notes. "Unemployment during that year averaged 4.8 percent. It never went above five percent for an entire year prior to the midterms, and he got beaten up about it."
