Pastor issues warning to activist judges

A Texas pastor thinks the judges in his state have forgotten the Constitution and are instead seeking to advance their own ideals on the people, so he is warning activist judges to learn a lesson from Iowa.

With the judiciary seeking to overturn a handful of laws passed by a majority of voters, Rick Scarborough, a Baptist minister and founder of Vision America, is infuriated. He says the overturn of Proposition 8, the measure that passed in 2008 and defined marriage as between a man and a woman, was a prime example of judicial activism in which a federal judge decided the law did not comply with the Constitution.

"They do not have the right to cloak themselves in a greater understanding of the Constitution than that of the legislators and that of the people," Scarborough contends. "Judges who overrule the clear, defined will of the people should be impeached."

He says the clear role of a judge is to defend the will of the people and the measures they vote into law -- not to impose their own agenda.
