The 'tone-deaf' 9th Circuit

A California-based federal appeals court is being criticized for displaying a "breach of public trust" by holding lavish conferences on the taxpayers' dime.

Federal judges of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals are being criticized by Congress for choosing to hold its annual conference in Maui this year. This is the fourth time in the last decade that the Ninth Circuit will have held conferences in Hawaii.

The federal appeals court has a history of holding meetings at upscale resorts, and critics like Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute say the court is being too extravagant, especially in light of California's financial troubles.
