Our Tribute to Kathryn
Scarborough
Kathryn was born to us in Nacogdoches, Texas, on May 9th, 1979. God
called her home in her sleep Wednesday morning, October 27th, 2004, at
the tender age of 25. Kathryn suffered quietly and heroically with an
incurable disease for seven long years, accomplishing more in her brief
time on earth than most people do in a full lifetime. Never one to say I
can’t, she became a gifted long distance runner while enduring
incredible suffering.
Her one unfulfilled goal of qualifying for the Olympics in the Marathon
Event, was surpassed as she was elevated into God’s presence. Kathryn
won many awards running long distance and in 2002 finished second in the
Houston Marathon, qualifying her to compete in Athens, Greece the same
year. She passed on that honor to run for the SFA Lumberjack Cross
Country team that won the Conference Championship.
Kathryn’s greatest passion was to please her Savior. Her love for
Christ, tempered by her suffering, gave her a great love for hurting
people. Every day we meet another life she affected.
We miss her terribly, and we grieve over her loss, but the tracks she
left during her 25 year marathon on this earth, bring great solace to
our lives.
Pastor Rod Compton, of Craig, Colorado, will oversee the celebration,
assisted by Dr. Alan Reed and Rev. Ronnie Sowell.
Kathryn is survived by: her sister, Misty and her husband, Daniel
Allmond, of Nacogdoches, Texas; her nephew and niece, Micah and Alexis
Allmond, whom she adored; her brother, Richard Scarborough Jr. of
Houston, Texas; her Grandparents, Tommye and Glyndon Adams, of
Nacogdoches, Texas, and Billy and Ginger Scarborough of Martinsville,
Texas; her Aunt and Uncle, Jim and Sheila Adams of Martinsville, Texas,
and her namesake, Aunt Kathy Randall, of Pearland, Texas; and her
Parents, Tommye Glyn and Dr. Rick Scarborough of Martinsville, Texas.
Her remains will be temporarily
stored in the Martinsville, Cemetery, until called forth on that great
day of our Lord’s return. We sorrow not as those who have no hope, but
with certainty, we look forward to seeing her again because of the one
who gave His ONLY son.
Till then, we weep, but we also rejoice, because our trust is in Christ.
