Commenting on the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to refuse to consider the appeal of a judicial ban on prayer at the Virginia Military Institute, Vision America President Rick Scarborough charged: “In its relentless quest for a religion-free America, the Court is even denying the solace of prayer to our future military leaders.”

Two lower federal courts declared the cadet-led prayers, which took place during the dinner-hour, unconstitutional. By refusing to hear the appeal, the Supreme Court let these rulings stand, thus abolishing a practice at VMI for more than 100 years.

Scarborough added: “We’ve seen pictures of our young men and women praying in the field in Iraq, and praying over the bodies of their fallen comrades. Based on the perverted logic of the federal judiciary, isn’t that unconstitutional too?”

“Does this nation really want to raise up a generation of officers without religious values?” Scarborough asked. “It isn’t federal-court decisions which inspire young men to perform feats of heroism on the battlefield, but their faith in God. The Supreme Court is undercutting that faith, to the detriment of the nation.”

Vision America is best known for its Ten Commandments rallies, which support public display of the Decalogue and work for the right of Americans to publicly acknowledge God. Rallies currently are scheduled for Jackson, TN. on May 1st, Cookeville, TN. on June 4th and Houston on July 4th.
