HOMOSEXUAL “MARRIAGE” IN MASSACHUSETTS -- A MAJOR STEP IN MORAL DEGRADATION OF AMERICA

In ceremonies mocking 3,300 years of Judeo-Christian tradition, Massachusetts extended the estate of marriage to homosexuals today. Vision America President Rick Scarborough pronounced the development “a dark and tragic day for what once was one nation, under God.”

Noting that this savage assault on decency is entirely judge-driven, Scarborough commented: “The overwhelming majority of Americans are opposed to homosexual marriage. In 1996, Congress overwhelmingly passed and the president signed into law the Defense of Marriage Act – defining marriage at the federal level as the union of a man and a woman, and providing that states do not have to recognize homosexual ‘marriages’ contracted in other states. Currently, more than two-thirds of the states have codified marriage.”

Scarborough continued: “Now, by a one-vote margin, four social anarchists in black robes will force this bizarre experiment on the state that was the cradle of the American Revolution. Under the Massachusetts Constitution, the justices of the Supreme Judicial Court do not have the power to define marriage. In fact, that power is specifically relegated to the governor and legislature. But then, when did a little thing like a constitution ever stand in the way of judicial autocrats.”

“The travesty taking place in Massachusetts demonstrates the urgent need for the Federal Marriage Amendment,” Scarborough declared. “The sacred institution of marriage must be placed beyond the reach of an arrogant, activist judiciary.”

Scarborough urged all Americans, of every faith, “to pray for the people of Massachusetts. In the dark days ahead, we must combine the power of prayer with the power of exercising our rights as citizens to save our faith, our families and our freedom.”
