VISION AMERICA APPALLED BY SENATE VOTE ON MARRIAGE AMENDMENT

Vision America President Rick Scarborough he was “amazed and appalled” by today’s Senate vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment.

“Despite the rhetoric about ‘leaving marriage to the states,’ what it comes down to is this: Only 48 members of the United States Senate – not even a majority -- were willing to stand up for the traditional definition of marriage,” Scarborough said.

“What on earth is our country coming to?” The Vision America president asked. “Senators who don’t understand that marriage means – can only mean – the union of a man and a woman? Legislators without the backbone to stand up to a bunch of degenerates calling themselves a ‘sexual minority?’”

Scarborough asked: “Has our nation’s leadership lost its collective mind? Are they willing to accept any social poison forced down the throats of the American people by radicals masquerading as jurists?”

Vision America congratulated President Bush for moving the marriage amendment to the top of his agenda. In his Saturday radio address, the president correctly maintained, “If courts create their own arbitrary definition of marriage as a mere legal contract, and cut marriage off from its cultural, religious and natural roots, then the meaning of marriage is lost and the institution is weakened.”

Also deserving of plaudits is the Senate Republican leadership, for bringing the amendment to the floor, and all of the conservative organizations and ministries that labored long and hard in the defense of the family.

“This is only the beginning of our battle to save traditional marriage and the family,” Scarborough promised. “The war now will move forward on a thousand fronts – in the media, at rallies, in Congress (the House is scheduled to vote on the FMA in the fall), and in our efforts to educate Christians on their duties as citizens, through Vision America’s patriot Pastor Program.”
