Scarborough Motivates Valley Crowd

Nearly 350 people were motivated to civic action on April 3 at the Valley Family Forum and Family Foundation’s 6th annual Salute to the Family: A Celebration of Faith in Harrisonburg.

Dr. Rick Scarborough, President of Vision America, issued a passionate call to put our faith into action in the public square.  Deeply concerned by the moral decline in our culture, and sparked by his own shocking experience with a public school assembly speaker who promoted sexual experimentation, he challenged churches and pastors to become more active in our culture and in the public policy process.

Noting that only half of professing Christians even register to vote, and only half of those who are registered make it to the polls, he emphasized that we are responsible for the leaders we get:  “It is a sin not to vote!”  He urged us to study the issues and the candidates, and then help elect people who will fight for biblical principles.

The evening included recognition of sponsors and local legislators in attendance, including Senators Hanger and Obenshain, Delegates Cline, Lohr and Marshall, and Congressman Bob Goodlatte.   In addition, the crowd honored some 50 Valley pastors and their wives who were in attendance!  Prior to the dinner over 30 pastors and ministry leaders participated in a roundtable discussion of the role of the church in the public square.

The staff at The Family Foundation would like to thank the director of the Valley Family Forum, Dean Welty, and his wife Janet, for all their hard work in putting together the day’s events, and for their tireless action in directing the Forum!
